What types of injuries can be classified as spinal cord injuries?

The term spinal cord injury is a broad one that can cover any form of damage to the spinal cord that causes one to lose mobility or function. Spinal cord injuries can be as serious as complete paralysis. Injuries to the spinal cord can also cause loss of sensation, loss of sexual function, and loss of bowel and bladder control.

If I received a spinal cord injury in an accident, am I eligible for compensation?

Yes, if your injury was the result of an accident caused by someone else’s negligence, you may be eligible for compensation through a personal injury lawsuit.

Because of a spinal cord injury, my loved one now requires my assistance with her 24-hour care. Can I get compensation for my loss of income as a result of the care that I must now provide?

Yes, compensation may be available for your loss of income as well as for other losses including medical expenses or the loss of income of your loved one who was injured in the accident. If an insurance company tries to settle your claim before you have a lawyer, you should obtain legal advice so that you will know what your entitlement should be.
